Need to Act

There is a song by Nickelback that I could almost love.  I say almost because there is a line of the song that completely shatters the romance in the song.  The song is "I'd Come for You." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6CQZgnp0y4.
This song has lovely lines about fighting for their love and dying for the woman he loves.  The verse that shatters the romance, however, is "Yes, I'd come for you but only if you told me to."  I do not want a man who has to be told to act and help me.  I want one who sees not only my needs but the needs of those around him who he can help...and acts to help us.
*SPOILER ALERT*  Last night I watched Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.  It was certainly not the best movie I have seen, but I did like one thing about it.  The pirates captured a mermaid for a ritual and had to take her with them on the island.  She was in a glass case filled with water.  One of the men carrying her case slipped and the glass broke.  Without water her tail disappeared and legs formed.  Unfortunately, she had never walked on legs before and was unable to walk more than a step without falling.  The young missionary man who was also a captive picks her up and carries her.  She tells him that she didn't ask for help.  He answers, "You still need it."
    *SPOILER OVER*
The truth is that sometimes we are too stubborn or prideful or afraid or simply unable to ask for help.  We need it nonetheless.  An immature man needs to be told to step in.  A good man acts without needing to be asked.
